The Departmnet of Botany organizing number of training programmes in order to explore new innovations both for faculty and to the students.

Indoor plant culture- Workshop:
The Department of Botany organized a three day DBT Sponsored Hands on Training Workshop on  Flower arrangement and Maintenance for the III B.Sc Students on 6th to 8th Feburary, 2017. Total 40 Students Participated in this Workshop and they learned about how to prepare the Bouquets, Preservation of Flowers. Certificates issued to all the Participants.

e- CONTENT DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP IN REGIONAL LANGUAGES:

Andhra Loyola College in Collaboration with CIS-A2K Bangalore, organized a Three Day e- Content Development Workshop for Botany Students on 16th to 18th Aug, 2016. Total 62 Students participated in this workshop and digitized 750 pages. Dr. B. Siva Kumari, Coordinator, Dr. T. Sekhar Organizing Secretary and Mr. Pawan Santhosh programmer participated in this workshop

DBT sponsored Regional Workshop on “Instrumentation and Lab maintenance- 17th Aug, 2016

The Department of Botany organized a one day DBT Sponsored Regional Workshop on Instrumentation and Lab Maintenance for Supporting Staff on 17th Aug, 2016. Total 32 participants from different Colleges participated in this event.

Instrumentation and Hands on training in advance Biological Techniques- 28-07-2016
The Department of Botany organized a DBT Sponsored Regional Student Workshop and Hands on Training programme on 27-07-2016 and 28-07-2016 on Instrumentation and Hands on Training on Advanced Biological Techniques. 60 Students from 9 different Colleges participated in this Training Programme.

One Day Workshop on Mushroom Cultivation for Self help groups- 9th July, 2016
 The Department of Botany organized a DBT sponsored a one day training programme on “Mushroom Cultivation” in collaboration with Tanusree Mushroom cultivation on 9th July, 2016 for Public and SHG (Self-help groups) women in and around Vijayawada.

One Day Workshop on Mushroom Cultivation- 25-06-2016
The Department of Botany organized a DBT sponsored one day Hands on training programme on “Mushroom Cultivation” in collaboration with Tanusree Mushroom cultivation on 25-06-2016. Total 102 students participated actively and were trained. The resource persons were Mr. Jaya Chandra and his father Jojaiah along with Dr. B. Siva Kumari DBT Coordinator.

Andhra Loyola College in Collaboration with CIS-A2K Bangolore organized a Two Day e- Content development Workshop for Special Telugu Students on 13th and 14th Feb, 2016. Total 30 students participated in this workshop and digitalized 750 pages. Dr. B. Siva Kumari, Coordinator, Dr. T. 13, 14 తేదీల్లో ఆంధ్ర లొయొలా కళాశాలలో నిర్వహించిన డిజిటైజేషన్ స్ప్రింట్ కార్యక్రమం ద్వారా 750కి పైగా పేజీలను డిజిటైజ్ చేయడం ద్వారా తెలుగు వికీసోర్సును అభివృద్ధి చేశారు. విద్యార్థులు పుస్తకాలను వికీసోర్సులోకి చేర్చడం, ఓసీఆర్ (ఆప్టికల్ క్యారెక్టర్ రిజల్యూషన్) సాఫ్ట్ వేర్ పై పనిచేయడం, వికీసోర్సులో పేజీలను డిజిటైజ్ చేయడం వంటివి నేర్చుకున్నారు.  ఈ కార్యక్రమాన్ని సీఐఎస్-ఎ2కె సంస్థ ఆంధ్ర లొయొలా కళాశాల సంయుక్త నిర్వహణలో నిర్వహించగా, కొత్త వికీపీడియన్లకు మార్గదర్శనం చేయడంలో తెలుగు వికీపీడియన్ విశ్వనాధ్‌ (పోడూరు, పశ్చిమ గోదావరి) పాల్గొన్నారు.

తెలుగు వికీసోర్సు అంతర్జాలంలోని స్వేచ్ఛా గ్రంథాలయం. పబ్లిక్ డొమైన్లో కానీ, క్రియేటివ్ కామన్స్ లైసెన్సుల్లో కానీ లభించే స్వేచ్ఛా లైసెన్సుల్లోని తెలుగు భాషా గ్రంథాలను డిజిటైజ్ చేసి, వికీసోర్సు ద్వారా అందుబాటులోకి తెలుస్తున్న స్వచ్చంద కార్యకర్తలు (వికీసోర్సర్లుగా వ్యవహరిస్తారు) అంతర్జాలంలో దాదాపుగా 8మంది ఉన్నారు. వారి కృషి వల్ల పాపులర్ సైన్సు నుంచి మతపరమైన సాహిత్యం, తెలుగు రాష్ట్రాల్లోని ప్రముఖ రచయితల సాహిత్యం వరకూ పలు రకాల గ్రంథాలను దాదాపు 29,680 పేజీల డిజిటైజ్ అయిన పాఠ్యం వికీసోర్సులో అందుబాటులో వుంది

BONSAI HANDS ON TRAINING FOR III B.Sc, (DB) STUDENTS

Instrumentation and hands on Training in Advanced Biological Sciences" 7th & 8th Dec, 2015: The Department of Botany, Biotechnology & Microbiology  in association with K L  University, Vaddeswaram  organized a two-day National Workshop  on Instrumentation and hands on Training in Advanced Biological Sciences"  on 7th & 8th Dec, 2015. The key note address was delivered by Prof. K. Srinivasulu, HoD, Dept of Biotechnology, Dr. Ch. Vijaya, Prof. Dept of Marine Biology, Vikram Simhapuri University also delivered his message on this occasion in the Inaugural session.Dr. B. Siva Kumari, Coordinator of the programme explained the need of training for the lecturers.  Total 40 participants from different colleges and universities presented in this workshop. Total faculty devided in to batches and trained them in Immunalogical Techniques,  Microbiology techniques, Micropropagation techniques, Biochemistry and Molecular biology techniques. A total no of 18 practicals provided hands on training.  Rev. Fr. A. Francis Xavier, Sj, Director, ALITE,Vijayawada delivered the  chief guest message in the valedictory session and distrubuted the participation  certificates.Ms. Kavitha Organizing Secretary presented the two day workshop report and Dr. B. Siva KUmari, Dept of Botany, Coordinator of the workshop proposed vote of thanks.  All the officials of the College, faculty and students of the Department of Botany, Biotechnology & Microbiology participated in the workshop.

MUSHROOM CULTIVATION TRAINING PROGRAMME 27th Nov, 2015:

Cultivated mushrooms have now become popular all over the world. Mushroom cultivation can help reduce vulnerability to poverty and strengthens livelihoods through the generation of a fast yielding and nutritious source of food and a reliable source of income. Mushrooms both add flavour to bland staple foods and are a valuable food in their own right. National Green Corps, Depts. of Botany and Microbiology organized a one day hands on training workshop on ‘ MUSHROOM CULTIVATION, in collaboration with Tanusri  Mushroom cultivars, for the Degree students on 27th Nov, 2015. Total 112 students from various departments attended in this programme. Mr. Jaya Chandra and Dr. B. Siva Kumari were the resource persons, They  explained the procedure for Mushroom cultivation. All the faculty members from   Botany and Microbiology were participated in this programme.

FREE AND OPEN KNOWLEDGE IN THE DIGITAL ERA- 11th Aug 2014:

Dr. B. Siva Kumari, Department of Botany, Convener organized a one Day National Workshop on FREE AND OPEN KNOWLEDGE IN THE DIGITAL ERA" on 11th Aug 2014 for advanced learners from all the II second year sections.

     A ONE DAY NATIONAL WORKSHOP FOR STUDENTS ON  26th JUNE, 2014- KNOWLEDGE AND OPENNESS IN THE DIGITAL ERA 

A one-day National Workshop on “Knowledge and Openness in the Digital Era” has been organized in association with the Bangalore-based Centre for Internet and Society (India) on 26th June 2014 for the advanced learner-students.  Seventy five students from different Colleges across the country took part in the workshop and have been trained in wikipedia page development, www.commons.org development, article-writing, editing and uploading techniques by the Resource Persons Sri T.Vishnuvardhan, Programme Director, Centre for Internet and Society, Rehimanuddin Shaik, Programme Officer and Malladi Kameswara Rao, Journalist, Visalandra Daily. The workshop turned out to be very useful for the students who learnt the techniques of uploading their own articles, searching of new articles and editing articles of others.  The students wanted conduct of more number of  similar workshops to improve their skills in the use of digital technology.  Dr. B. Siva Kumari, Secretary-Academic Activities, was the Organizing Secretary for this student workshop.  All the participants were presented with Certificate of Participation. 

A TWO DAY NATIONAL WORKSHOP FOR FACULTY MEMBERS   ON 24th and 25th JUNE, 2014

 

A two-day National Workshop on “Knowledge and Openness in the Digital Era” has been organized in association with the Bangalore-based Centre for Internet and Society (India) on 24th & 25th June 2014 to empower the participant-faculty members to have a comprehensive understanding of the changes that are brought by the digital technology to the knowledge domain. Forty nine faculty members from different parts of the Country including from the host College participated in the workshop. Sri T.Vishnuvardhan, Programme Director, Centre for Internet and Society, Rehimanuddin Shaik, Programme Officer and Malladi Kameswara Rao, Journalist, Visalandra Daily, acted as the Resource Persons.  The Resource Persons acquainted the participants with various methods of article-writing, editing and uploading them into wikipedia. They also explained the QR code-generating mechanism for the plants and scientific tools in various disciplines of science. All the officials of the College were present at the inaugural as well as the valedictory session.  Dr.B.Siva Kumari, Secretary-Academic Activities, was the Organizing Secretary for this two-day workshop.  All the participants were presented with Certificate of Participation. 

Horticulture Display-21st January, 2013 :

Final year B.Sc., Botany students displayed 40 indoor Horticulture culture models in front of the College Bridge on 21st January 2013 to create awareness among the students on the new applied techniques for growth of different types of plants.  The students explained the importance, cultivation and maintenance of bonsai, terrarium, hanging gardens and kitchen garden.

ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON HORTICULTURAL TECHNIQUES - 14th Dec, 2012.                 

The Departments of Botany and organized a one day Workshop on Horticulture & Microbial Techniques on 14th December 2012 in association with Dr.YSR Horticulture University, Venkataramana Gudem.   Five staff members and 52 students from eight colleges participated in this workshop, inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Raju, SJ, Vice Principal who explained the importance of horticultural skills in the present scenario. Sri  P. Balaji kumar, Horticulture officer explained the importance of Horticulture, job opportunities and Govt. schemes and their commercial uses. Dr. B. Siva Kumari, Head, Dept of Botany explained the various horticultural techniques and maintenance of Green house. Sri  Dhana raj, Sri  N. Srinivasa Rao from Dr. YSR Horticulture University demonstrated all the vegetative techniques in the field. Sri  K. Bala Chandra Head, Dept of Microbiology, ALC, explained the isolation of Bacteria from saline water. The workshop ended with the sharing of participants’ opinion and valedictory address given by Rev. Fr. Dr. G.A. Peter Kishore, SJ, Principal, and message by Rev. Fr. Dr. A. Francis Xavier, SJ, Correspondent. Dr. B. Siva Kumari proposed the vote of thanks. All the student leaders actively participated in the workshop.

National Workshop- Horticulture Techniques and Molecular techniques-

STAFF-RETRAINING PROGRAMME-15th -17th October, 2012.

The Department of Botany and Microbiology organized a three-day UGC Workshop cum Staff Re-training Programme on Molecular Biology and Horticultural Techniques for all the Life Sciences faculty members of Andhra Loyola College during 15th to 17th October, 2012

Workshop Ayurvedic Doctors Summit- 9th-Sep, 2012

On 9th Sep, 12 an ‘AYURVEDIC SUMMIT’ was organized to the Ayurvedic Doctors in which they visited the Gardens and the richness of ALC and its work towards the protection of environment. The Department of Botany organized Ayurvedic Summit on 9th September 2012.   Fifteen ayurvedic doctors and eight pharma company representatives took part in the summit and they explained the importance of the cultivation of medicinal plants as well as the need of extraction of the drugs from the plants.  The participants, who visited the herbal and botanical gardens on the campus, appreciated the management and Department of Botany for maintaining a rare and endangered plants.

National Workshop- Innovative Trends in Life Sciences-(27th -28th Aug,2011)

Ideas spring out from source of great enthusiasm and active minds. It is an inception of a thought from an individual that could bring a blow of change in an organization or a society.
On organizing a two day workshop on ‘ innovative trends in life sciences’ has  brought an intuition to welcome a worthy, quality, beneficial, way of teaching in the teachers involved. It helped to realize that practical, field and zero level approach in way of learning and making learnt.

The Department of Botany organized a   Two-Day National Workshop on “Innovative Trends in Life Sciences” for Teachers on 26-27th August 2011. Sixty teachers from different parts of the state as well the staff and students of the organizing departments took part in the workshop.  Sri K.Chandra Sekharan, Regional Manager, The Hindu, was the Chief Guest.  Sri S.Venkateswarlu, E.E. AP Pollution Control Board, was the Guest of Honour. All the officials of the college were present at the inauguration of the workshop. Sri SVS Narasimha Rao, DEO, Krishna Dist. was the special invitee. Asst. Prof. K Madhava Chetty, SV University, delivered a guest lecture on “Strategies in the Conservation of Bio-diversity”; Sri K Ammani, H.O.D. Microbiology, Acharya Nagarjuna University, spoke on “Vaccines”; Mrs.B.Vijaya Lakshmi, HOD, Biotechnology, Krishna University, delivered a lecture on “Significance of Biotechnology in Curriculum” and Mrs.B.Siva Kumari, H.O.D. Botany, ALC, spoke on “Horticulture Techniques”.  Students displayed bonsai, mushroom cultivation, rare fruits and fifty varieties of rare medicinal plants and they explained their models to the teachers.  At the valedictory, Fr.Principal gave away prizes to the winners of Essay Writing competition conducted on 20th July in connection with the Mendel’s Day and to the winners of Drawing competition conducted 22nd July 2011 to mark the World Nature Conservation Day.
